We’re all thinking it: How did an American actress from California win the heart of a British prince?
Was it her beauty, her charm, or her wit? What exactly was it that made Prince Harry say “I do” at St. George’s Chapel on May 19, 2018, to Meghan Markle, who became Duchess of Sussex?
Of course we see their frequent public displays of affection and passionate devotion to one another, but is it real? Can their love last? Are they really good for one another?
We’ll never know for sure, but astrology is one helpful way to look deeper into their love.
Exploring the synastry, also known as love compatibility, of a power couple like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shows us why they are attracted to one another, how well they get along, and any areas of improvement that will help their relationship grow stronger with time.
Even if you have your doubts, their astrological compatibility says it all. Looking at their charts side by side is proof that these two were destined for one another.
But before we take a look into their synastry as a couple, let’s take a moment to explore who they are as individuals.
An Overview of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, Birth Chart
Although Prince Harry was born into the royal family, it’s no coincidence that his recent actions have cast him out. As a strong Virgo Sun, Capricorn Rising, and Taurus Moon, Harry was destined to break free of the traditions and structures that bound him, and his marriage to Meghan Markle plays a strong role in this.
Born on September 15, 1984, in London, England, Prince Harry’s Virgo Sun is located in his eighth house. His Virgo Sun placement showcases his strong values for family, community, and mental health. Although his Sun is in the element of Earth, the eighth house is naturally ruled by Scorpio, highlighting his strong emotional awareness and compassion for Meghan and their son.
What I find intriguing about this is that Prince Harry’s concern for others and mental health expands beyond his personal family and relationships. His strong Virgo Sun and Capricorn Rising create a need to help others on a more public and community-oriented level. This can be seen in the couple’s work with their non-profit organization and patronages.
In astrology, I’ve found, the Moon is associated with the mother, maternal instincts, and upbringing; it showcases how we were raised and our emotional nature. Because of this, men are more attracted to women who are the same sign as their mother. And sure enough, Meghan Markle’s Rising sign is Cancer, the same as Princess Diana’s Sun.
Prince Harry’s Taurus Moon is also located in his 4th house (which is ruled by the Moon), unveiling his ties to tradition and an unusually secluded childhood. His Taurus Moon is a direct representation of his connection to the monarchy and close relationship to his late mother.
Considering what a dedicated and protective husband and father he is, it’s not surprising that Prince Harry is a strong Capricorn rising. Capricorn Risings are diligent, reliable, and attracted to a successful future of their own making. I often see this with my Capricorn Rising clients—they are not satisfied with the lives of others; they want to pave their own path.
In love, Harry’s Venus in Libra lives in his 8th house of privacy and intimacy, and we can see this in his quiet but intentional affection with Meghan. However, Harry’s Mars in Sagittarius in his 11th house of friendships and organization forces him to travel the world and interact with others on a public platform. His actions are observed and experienced on a global level, especially since Sagittarius rules authority and foreign affairs.
An Overview of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, Birth Chart
Born on August 4, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, under the entertaining Zodiac sign of Leo, it’s no surprise that Meghan Markle was an American actress before she became a member of the British royal family.
As a bold Leo Sun, Cancer Rising, and Libra Moon, Meghan was born for the spotlight, and it’s no coincidence that her spouse is partially responsible for that.
What I love about Meghan is that her Leo Sun, placed in her 1st house, reflects a strong-minded woman with great passion and drama.
Naturally, she has a warm heart, a big smile, and a magnetic personality. With Leo being a fixed fire sign, Meghan is inherently strong-willed and determined. Although she is very caring, she can be very stubborn, and this will often work to her advantage if she channels it effectively.
But behind the fire is an intellectual and creative woman who enjoys the arts, learning new things, and socializing with others.
Her Libra moon in her 3rd house of communication and self-expression balances her Leo Sun, helping her to channel her desires in a way that is productive and fulfilling—hence her career as an actress on the famous television show Suits.
Still, Meghan may come across as a woman who is deeply emotional, sensitive, and private. This is because Meghan is a Cancer Rising, and the Rising sign represents our natural demeanor.
I’ve found that Cancer Risings are loyal, adaptable, and sometimes moody. They are very much like the Capricorn Risings, who symbolize achievement and stability specifically through the home and family.
In love, Meghan’s Venus in Virgo (which is Prince Harry’s Sun sign) is attracted to the practical and well-rounded man who promises her a life of stability and organization.
With Venus in her 3rd house of self-expression and communication, she is most likely attracted to those who have a platform in their local community, who know how to express their voice and message effectively.
However, Mars in Cancer in her 12th house of ending and completion highlights her desire for privacy and seclusion at home. She is not interested in being a part of the mainstream, at least not when her domestic life is involved. However, her Cancer Rising indicates that her family life is a major part of her public persona, whether she likes it or not.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Synastry
For me to say that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were made for each other would be a stretch, but the synastry does align in their favor.
What I like most about their synastry is how well each position complements the other. Unlike some charts I’ve studied, their relationship isn’t stagnant or boring. Each placement supports and challenges the other, giving them ample room to grow and expand as individuals and as a couple.
So, what was it about Meghan that won Prince Harry’s heart? I believe Prince Harry was most likely attracted to Meghan at first sight.
I’ve noticed that Virgo men love fiery women, no matter how reserved or laid-back they appear on the surface. So Prince Harry was probably amazed by her natural beauty, passionate heart, and mildly sarcastic humor. Still, in order for Meghan to catch his attention, she had to present more than beauty.
Prince Harry’s triple-earth Sun, Moon, and Rising combo makes him a serious man with big responsibilities, and Meghan naturally rose to the occasion to fill the shoes of his partner. Her Cancer Rising is comforting to Prince Harry’s Virgo Sun, and he enjoys the closeness that she brings him, especially since he lost his mother.
Although Meghan has a mixed-element Sun, Moon, and Rising combo, she is dominated by the element of fire. Her fiery essence makes her naturally attracted to Prince Harry’s grounded energy, as he provides the stability, protection, and masculine guidance she is seeking and most likely didn’t receive as a child.
To prove that these two are in it for the long haul, I’m going to break their synastry down by their Sun, Rising, and Moon signs.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Sun Sign Compatibility:
For starters, Prince Harry is a Virgo Sun, and Meghan Markle is a Leo Sun. Their Sun signs are one sign apart. When Sun signs are one sign apart, this can manifest as subtle friction or differences in perspectives and lifestyles.
Some astrologers would say that Sun signs one sign apart don’t work well together, but I’ve worked with clients who prove that it does work, they just have to compromise more often to live harmoniously.
Even though this can represent challenges in a relationship, it also highlights diversity. Prince Harry brings routine, order, and practicality to the relationship. Meghan brings adventure, spontaneity, and self-expression.
Together, they have the power to create a new lifestyle or system of marriage in the royal and British traditions, and this is very attractive to them both.
Still, Meghan will have to be mindful of her extravagant ways and occasional dramatic outbursts. At first, Prince Harry will be attracted to this, but with time he may require her to take on more of a traditional role in her own way.
For Meghan to adjust to his demands in love, she will have to feel safe in her skin. She needs to feel independent and respected, especially with her Leo Sun being in her 1st house of self.
Luckily, Prince Harry’s 8th house Virgo Sun believes in respect and equality. He wants a partner that he can share his wealth and authority with—he won’t be attracted to women who are anything less than worthy of that. The 8th house represents transformation, self-improvement, and ancestry. He is always looking for ways to improve.
With a 1st house Sun in Leo, Meghan needs attention for their relationship to last. Leo Suns thrive off romance, affection, and being the center of attention, so Prince Harry will have to continue to charm Meghan and vow to always put her first.
Society may judge Meghan for her non-traditional and outgoing personality, but this is typical of 1st house Leo Suns. I’ve found that they are some of the most liberated and strong-minded signs of the Zodiac. The Lion never backs down.
If Prince Harry and Meghan find themselves in trouble, it’s most likely because they aren’t agreeing on the basic principles of day-to-day life.
Prince Harry has strong ties to his family, and even though Meghan will honor this, she still has strong dreams of living an influential life of her own.
If I could give Prince Harry any advice, I would say:
“Create boundaries and organization in your schedule. Instead of neglecting your duties to the monarchy and your patronages, find a healthy balance between family life and work. This way you stay true to your desire to be of service and a reliable provider for your family.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Moon Sign Compatibility:
In relationships, the Moon sign and placement represent how each partner processes and expresses their emotions. With Prince Harry and Meghan’s Moon placements both ruled by the planet Venus, they have a natural chemistry in terms of romance. The ways they express their desire for romance and affection are different, but with time they will learn how to fulfill each other’s needs.
What I love about both their Moons being ruled by Venus is their shared values in terms of romance. They are both hopeless romantics who are devoted to almost obsessive ways. They both want fairytale love, even though Prince Harry is more practical than Meghan. I often see this with Taurus and Libra Sun combinations, but it is even more intense because it is the Moon.
Prince Harry’s 4th house Taurus Moon favors tradition and classic romance. Prince Harry enjoys weekly date nights, home-cooked meals, and intimate nights filled with music and wine.
For him to feel fulfilled emotionally, Meghan will have to nurture him and make their home feel like a home. Prince Harry will be most appreciative of simple, thoughtful gestures that make him feel special and seen.
By nature, Meghan enjoys the same things as Harry, but her 3rd house Libra Moon makes her more sociable and outgoing. Unlike Prince Harry, Meghan will be more often influenced to go out on the town or gather with friends. She doesn’t like feeling lonely or isolated. She changes her mind often and will expect him to be okay with this.
With the 3rd house ruling communication and self-expression, and Libra represented by the element of air, Meghan needs words of affirmation and affection to feel fulfilled. Prince Harry will have to do more than show Meghan a good time; he will need to express his affection openly for their emotional connection to last.
If I could give Meghan any advice, it would be:
“Practice extreme patience with Harry. You have strong demands, and he also has heavy responsibilities. He may not always be able to fulfill your every need when you want him to, but this doesn’t mean he does not care.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Rising Compatibility:
Rising-sign compatibility determines how a couple will coexist daily; it is their natural way of being and doing. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s rising compatibility is interesting; they are naturally in alignment with one another.
It’s no surprise to me that Prince Harry would choose Meghan as his wife and lifelong partner. Prince Harry is a Capricorn Rising, which symbolizes public achievement; Meghan Markle is a Cancer Rising, which symbolizes familial achievement.
Both Rising signs have a strong desire to become financially and economically independent through their own endeavors; how they achieve this is where they differ.
In astrology, Capricorn and Cancer are very compatible. Prince Harry and Meghan’s Rising signs are placed in each other’s 7th house of marriage and partnership. This means that their marriage will feel natural and harmonious, and they will have a strong friendship that helps them in hard times.
On the other hand, Prince Harry may find it hard at times to relate to Meghan’s deeply emotional nature. In order for their marriage to endure, he will have to overcome his reserved and often detached Capricorn Rising nature and be more considerate of her and their family’s needs.
Meghan’s Cancer Rising will often be intimidated or overshadowed by Prince Harry’s strong, earthy demeanor. In order for her voice to be heard, she will need to be strong-willed and make her priorities known.
At the same time, she will also need to be understanding of the structure and responsibility that comes with being married to a Capricorn Rising. Her strong fire energy will become restless under too much structure and tradition.
By nature, Prince Harry’s Capricorn Rising will place his career at the forefront of his duties, and this could be troubling if they can’t reach common ground. But even with their differences, their mutual desire for stability and long-term commitment will keep their bond strong.
If they have the ability to compromise and build on their strengths, they will most likely have a fulfilling, long-lasting marriage.
In terms of compatibility, I give Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a score of 7 out of 10.
My advice to them both would be to stay kind and transparent throughout their marriage. I often see strong couples like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle fall apart in tough times when they lose sight of what brought them together. And this is even more important with their royal status and public positioning.
I often tell my clients that it’s not about having the perfect match in astrology; it’s about being with someone who complements your placements and adds value to the challenging aspects present in your chart.
